The technical program for SMiRT 17 had 14 divisions representing specific areas for paper presentations. It features plenary lectures in which distinguished speakers delivered comprehensive coverage of important topics which were of interest to a broad cross section of the audience. Workshop sessions were organized in some divisions for intense discussion among participants. Post conference seminars were held in areas of the Slovak Republic in an effort to focus in greater areas on topics of interest to participants.
