Bruno A. Boley
received the B.S. in Civil Engineering from City College of New York and the
Sc.D. in Aeronautical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He began
a long career in academia, serving in successive civil engineering posts at
Ohio State University, Columbia, Cornell and Northwestern, where he served as
Dean of Engineering for 20 years. He returned to Columbia in 1987 as Professor
of Civil Engineering and Structural Mechanics. He has worked extensively in
many aspects of the mechanics of solids and structures, including studies on
thermal stresses and deformations, on vibrational and dynamical behavior, and
on mathematical methods of analysis. He is the Editor of "Mechanicals Research
Communications," an international journal in the field.
