Ajaya Kumar Gupta

Ajaya Kumar Gupta is Founding Center Director and Professor of Civil Engineering at North Carolina State University. He has also served as Senior Research Engineer and Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 1976-80, and Supervisor in the Structural Analytical Division at Sargent & Lundy (S&L), 1971-76. Professor Gupta has a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1971), and master's (1968) and bachelor's (1966) degrees from the University of Roorkee. His research topics include the response spectrum method, reinforced concrete cooling towers and concrete containment vessels. He has written an authoritative text Response Spectrum Method (Blackwell, 1990; CRC, 1992), published more than 100 papers, and written many reports. Results of his research have been used in ASCE, ASME and other international codes and standards. Ajaya Gupta is received the ASCE Huber Research Prize in 1982 and the ASCE Stephen D. Bechtel, Jr. Energy Award in 1996.
