Manus O’Donnell Manus O’Donnell is currently the Head of Research and Development (R&D) for EDF Energy in the United Kingdom. His responsibilities include:- – Setting the direction of technical R&D to underpin the business strategy – Working in collaboration with wider stakeholders to ensure that there is a coordinated research plan – Taking a lead on the external R&D opportunities through liaison with academia, industry and government – Ensuring research plans meet the requirement of the UK safety authority (ONR), and – Ensuring the right focus on future development of technical expertise through research. Manus graduated from Trinity College Dublin, in Ireland with Degrees in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering and Mathematics in 1992. This was followed by his PhD studies in the area of high temperature structural materials. This work was conducted at the European Commissions’ Joint Research Centre in The Netherlands. Since 1996 he has worked in the UK nuclear industry covering topics from safety related research through to leadership of operationally focused engineering teams and projects. Manus is a chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
