Sujit Samaddar is the Head of the Structural Engineering Branch for New Reactors at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Prior to this, Mr. Samaddar was the Head of the International Seismic Safety Center of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a United Nations Organization in Vienna. In this role, he represented IAEA on matters related to the safety of nuclear installations against external hazards, worldwide. He has had many public engagements with Ministers and Heads of government organizations and has frequently appeared in the media to support and provide information on natural hazards and the design of nuclear power plants to counter such hazards. Currently as a part of USNRC management he initiates strategic concepts in the area of structural evaluation and design providing guidance and implementation of USNRC’s review of structural safety of new reactors. Mr. Samaddar has over 30 years of experience in the design, construction and regulation of nuclear power plants. Prior to this Mr. Samaddar was the Branch Chief in NRC responsible for the site evaluation for the New Reactor applications. Mr. Samaddar holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and University of South Carolina specializing in structural and soil dynamics
