Folker H. Wittmann studied Physics and Mathematics at Universities of Karlsruhe and Munich in Germany. He obtained his PhD in nuclear physics at Munich University of Technology. Then he habilitated in Building Materials Physics. He held the chair for Building Materials in Civil Engineering at the Universities of Technology in Delft, The Netherlands, Lausanne and Zurich, Switzerland. After retiring he joined Aedificat Institute Freiburg, Germany, and he lectures regularly and supervises postgraduate students at Qingdao University of Technology, China. In 1976 he obtained the RILEM Medal, and in 1998 he obtained an honorary doctorate (Dr.-Ing. E.h.) from Essen University. He is the author of more than 300 papers in peer reviewed journals and editor of more than 20 volumes. He is editor-in-chief of the International Journal for Restoration and co-editor of several scientific journals.
